At Southfield School, we use Being a Reader and Being a Writer in 3rd and 4th grade to help students become confident, independent readers and strong writers. Being a Reader builds fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary through engaging whole-group and small-group lessons, encouraging meaningful discussions and critical thinking. Meanwhile, Being a Writer guides students through the writing process, helping them develop clear, organized, and creative writing skills across different genres. Together, these programs foster a love of reading and writing while supporting collaboration and growth.
