Our School

At Southfield School, our talented

and experienced faculty cultivate curiosity, character, kindness, and a lifelong love of learning. We do things a little differently around here and it’s one of the reasons we have more than 85 years of outstanding outcomes with our students and alumni. We don’t teach to a test – we have a proven method that works. Our secret is in helping our students find the joy of learning. We believe in creating a partnership between faculty, parents, and students and our students meet our efforts with enthusiasm.

Preschool 2-4

Teachers set up an environment of purposeful learning centers and activities. For young children, play is their work. Each preschool class is taught by a certified early childhood teacher and an assistant. Children in PS-3 and PS-4 visit a certified music teacher each day for music and movement.

Our program covers early literacy, math, science, social studies, music, drama, and physical education in an environment that introduces these topics through play. Click here to learn more about our Preschool curriculum.

There is a half-day or full-day option with carpool pickups available at noon and 3:00pm. The Southfield Extended Day program is available until 5:30pm and early drop-off is available beginning at 7:30am. Students using the Extended Day Program remain with familiar teachers and friends. They continue the Preschool experience throughout the afternoon.

Lower School (K-4th grade)

Lower School classes are taught by experienced, certified teachers who work as partners at the grade level and as a divisional team to ensure a comprehensive and cohesive core curriculum in language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. Students also participate in music, French, physical education, science lab, art, library, and computer technology. Click here to learn more about our Lower School.

Middle School (5th-8th grade)

Middle school is a time of significant change in students’ lives.  At Southfield, our students are guided by a veteran faculty and support staff who recognize the value of life lessons. Small group advisory meetings address current issues as well as relational topics to help students learn to live lives of excellence. Click here to learn more about our Middle School.
