Military Support
at Southfield School
Southfield Welcomes and Supports our Military Families.
At Southfield School, we proudly support and enthusiastically welcome our military families, who make up 10% of our student body. We are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment where all students feel welcomed and supported. We understand the unique challenges that military families face, including deployments, Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves, and frequent relocations. Our staff is trained to help students navigate these transitions smoothly.
Admissions for Military Families
Southfield School recognizes that military families are likely unable to visit area schools prior to relocating. Admissions Director Lesley Brice works closely with each family to help them navigate the admission and variable tuition processes as well as to make a well-informed decision. As part of the application process, Southfield will schedule a Zoom meeting that allows us to meet our student applicants and parents. An 18-minute virtual tour is available to families.
Military Grant & Variable Tuition
In addition to our commitment to creating a supportive community, we provide an annual $1,000 Military Grant grant to each child of active duty families. Families wishing to be considered for additional financial support are encouraged to apply for Southfield’s Variable Tuition program.
HOW DOES SOUTHFIELD SUPPORT OUR MILITARY FAMILIES?
Military Family Breakfast
The Military Family Breakfast, a long standing Southfield tradition, brings together new and returning military families just before Meet the Teacher day begins.
Buddy Families
Each new student and family is matched with a buddy family from that same grade or grades. Buddy families serve as a summer and school year resource for all new Eagles.
New Parent Reception
One week into the school year, new parents and their Buddy Families are invited to gather on campus for a time of community and information.
Soaring Eagles Military Student Club
Each month, children of active duty military, Kindergarten through 8th grade are invited to gather for a student-led meeting to provide community time as well as peer support.
Parents' Association
All Southfield parents are members of the Parents’ Association and are encouraged to participate in activities throughout the year. Examples include our annual community event, Pumpkin Shine, Auction Party, Book Fair, teacher appreciation and room parents.
Dads' Club
Founded in 2007, Dads’ Club fosters fellowship between students and dads or male role models. It offers opportunities for fathers to meet and interact. Events are designed to create friendships and memories and there is no charge to participate. Activities range from preschool playdate to Mud Bugs hockey games. Also popular are the Dads’ Club breakfasts as well as Bingo night and the one fundraising event, a golf tournament held on the 1st Monday in May.
Month of the Military Child
April, the Month of the Military Child, underscores the important role military children play in the armed forces community. Southfield School recognizes our military children during our April, all-school assembly. On that day, the Southfield faculty, staff and students wear purple in appreciation of our military children.
