I am pleased to share what makes Southfield’s Lower School a place where young learners truly thrive. Our program is one of excellence, guided by a team of experienced and certified educators who are deeply committed to each child’s growth and development. These passionate professionals work in close collaboration, both within grade levels and as a cohesive team—to provide a rich, challenging, and intentional academic experience. At the heart of our work is a belief in teaching the whole child. This means not only delivering a strong foundation in reading, language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies, but also nurturing the social, emotional, and creative aspects of each student. Our curriculum is designed to inspire deep thinking and meaningful engagement, encouraging students to explore ideas, take intellectual risks, and develop confidence in their abilities. Southfield students also participate in a range of enrichment opportunities, including Spanish, music, physical education, art, science lab, library, and computer technology. These experiences do more than enhance academics. They cultivate curiosity, creativity, and a genuine love for learning. Daily morning meetings help build community and support social-emotional learning, while spaces like our Makerspace offer hands-on opportunities to create, innovate, and problem-solve. Our Lower School environment also fosters the development of character and kindness. Our goal is to empower children not only with knowledge and skills, but with the integrity, confidence, and empathy needed to navigate life with purpose. At Southfield, we are proud to nurture students who are curious and capable, young learners who grow into confident scholars. The Lower School experience at Southfield is one of joyful discovery, meaningful connection, and purposeful growth, laying the essential groundwork for who our students are now and who they are becoming.
