Associate Headmaster of Lower and Middle School Mon - Fri Preschool Director Mon, Wed, Fri Middle School Academic Overview The Middle School program continues the curriculum in Lower School with in-depth study of the core subjects of language arts, science, mathematics, social studies and foreign language. Students are not tracked, except in upper level math in sixth through eighth grades. The foreign language choice is between French and Spanish and is made at the seventh grade level. Latin as an independent study option is also available. Most students earn Carnegie units (high school credits) in Algebra I, Spanish, French and Technology. Physical education I offered to all grades, with some limited off campus options available to qualified eighth grade students. Middle school students benefit from a variety of enrichment and extra-curricular options and opportunities. Sequential nine-week exploratory courses provide for in-depth exposure to technology, drama, art, fencing and ethics depending on grade level. Rotating club options provide opportunities to explore various interests ranging from recycling to chess. Eligible students may also serve on the student council, assist with the yearbook, sing in the school chorus or perform in a major musical drama. Multiple service opportunities also exist, as do a full array of athletic teams including basketball, golf, tennis, cheerleading, fencing, and in partnership with other area private schools, football. |
