Southfield School was established in 1934 and is an independent co-educational, PS2 through Eighth Grade School with a current enrollment of 428 students. It is a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) and accredited by ISAS (Independent Schools Association of the Southwest). At Southfield, our talented and experienced faculty cultivate curiosity, character, kindness, and a lifelong love of learning.

Advancement Director

Southfield School in Shreveport, Louisiana, seeks an experienced professional to serve as Director of Advancement. Qualified candidates for this position should be experienced, enthusiastic, and creative leaders with a bachelor’s degree in a related field.  

Role Description:

The Director of Advancement is responsible for constituency relations, volunteer support, and implementing, overseeing, and managing all fundraising initiatives. It is a full-time, year-round position. The Director of Advancement participates in school-wide committees and occasionally attends functions beyond school hours.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Create and sustain positive relationships between the school and its constituents, both internal and external, leading them to support Southfield School as donors, volunteers, and advocates in fulfillment of the school’s mission 
  • Oversee four major areas of school activity: fundraising, constituency relations (chiefly parents, alumni, and alumni families), volunteer management, and special events  
  • Work with the Head of School, Finance Director, and Board of Trustees to determine the funding required to meet current and future institutional needs, providing direct support to the Head of School and the Board of Trustees in all fundraising initiatives 
  • Direct all fundraising programs to support school operations and growth, specifically the Annual Fund and a Major Gifts Campaign (currently in progress); oversee/manage other fundraising efforts and activities as needed 
  • Oversee a database management system to ensure timely and accurate documentation and reporting of philanthropic gifts, acknowledgment letters, volunteer/donor lists, and communications with donors; design processes and procedures to allow easy access to and retrieval of constituent data by other staff and volunteers  
  • Cultivate and steward current donors and prospects, creating a climate of future generous giving to Southfield School 
  • Build a program of ongoing cultivation of foundations, businesses/corporations, and other local organizations, increasing awareness of Southfield School and its programs, and creating a philanthropic climate for additional support of the school 
  • Organize and inspire a strong sense of community and pride in the school on the part of parents, alumni/alumni families, faculty, staff, and other constituent groups through donor recognition events and special celebrations such as Pumpkin Shine and Casino Night 
  • In collaboration with the Head of School, manage Southfield’s advancement publications so they support the school’s marketing efforts, as well as meet the needs of various internal constituencies and inform them effectively about school initiatives 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the Southfield Parents’ Association and Dads’ Club; work with the Head of School to identify and recruit leadership and help coordinate events  
  • The highest regard for confidentiality and exemplary ethical standards is necessary, as well as the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects under the pressure of deadlines 
  • Provide support in the hiring, training, and review of all Advancement Office staff 
  • Communicate effectively with the Business Office regarding all financial matters including department/event budgets and philanthropic gifts to the school 

Key Interfaces:

  • Reports to the Head of School  
  • Works collaboratively with the Advancement Team   
  • Serves as an active member of the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees  

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field  
  • Three to four years of successful non-profit/development experience preferred 
  • Strong organizational and communication skills 
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently 
  • Experience in program development and coordination, preferably in an educational setting 
  • Must possess exceptionally strong writing, speaking and interpersonal skills 
  • Computer skills essential; familiarity with fundraising software a plus 
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift up to 40 lbs., ability to move easily around campus, ability to sit, bend, kneel, stand, and walk frequently.

    Lower School Classroom Teacher

    Southfield School is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a lower school classroom teacher. Qualified candidates for this position should have at least a bachelor’s degree in elementary education (or a closely related field) with current K-4 certification.

    Role Description:

    In the role of the lower school classroom teacher, you will be responsible for teaching several different subjects daily including language arts, math, social studies, and science, while assessing group and individual progress. You will also adjust lessons to enrich, challenge, and support your student’s individual needs and progression. In addition, you will formally communicate student progress multiple times of the year through written reports, checklists, and parent conferences. You will also be responsible for supervising your students in the class, on the playground, in the lunchroom, and during school arrival and dismissal times daily. You will also be asked to participate on school-wide committees and to attend functions occasionally beyond school hours.

      Middle School Math Teacher

      Southfield School in Shreveport, Louisiana, seeks an experienced professional to serve as a middle school math teacher. Qualified candidates for this position should have at least a bachelor’s degree in education or Math (or a closely related field) with current middle school 4-8 or secondary mathematics 6-12 certification and have had at least three years of teaching experience.

      Role Description:

      The mathematics department at Southfield believes in building a grounded, comprehensive mathematical framework that trains students to think logically and critically. Southfield’s mathematics program emphasizes problem-solving and develops critical thinking through practice of basic skills and understanding and communicating mathematical thinking and strategies. In this position, you will instruct gifted math students through the Accelerated Curricular Experience (ACE) and students in 6th-8th grade. As a teacher you will ensure students are learning and absorbing the critical information they need to succeed in both high school and college mathematics.

        Full-time Lead Preschool Teacher

        Southfield School is seeking an experienced professional to serve as a lead preschool teacher. Qualified candidates for this position should have at least a bachelor’s degree and certification in early childhood education.

        Role Description:

        In the role of the lead preschool teacher, you must hold a child-centered philosophy and a strong belief that play is the foundation of all learning in preschool. You will be responsible for weekly and daily plans that support the whole group’s needs and the individual, providing sensory opportunities with more concrete materials. You must develop a schedule that allows for some uninterrupted time for exploration and experimentation, striking an appropriate balance between teacher-directed time and child-directed time. You will also be asked to attend monthly division meetings and whole-school faculty meetings, participate in school-wide committees, and occasionally attend functions beyond school hours.
