Theater

Southfield has a strong commitment to the fine arts. The performing  arts are integrated into the curriculum for all Southfield students. From kindergarten through fourth grade, students participate in grade-level drama performances. Middle school students participate in a four-year exploration of drama and art through nine-week enrichment classes during their fifth through eighth-grade years.  Seventh and eighth-grade students have the option to take part in a fully-staged musical production.

Drama goes beyond the stage

Drama teaches empathy, communication, self control and discipline. We use it to reinforce the rest of the school curriculum. Students build many of the sets for our Middle School musical, giving them an integrated learning experience while in drama class that can touch subject matters like art, math and architecture. Students learn about ancient Greece, philosophy, art, music and more. Drama exemplifies integrated learning.
