Theater

Southfield School has a strong commitment to the fine arts. The performing arts are integrated into the curriculum for all Southfield students. From Kindergarten through 6th grade, students participate in grade-level drama performances. Middle School students participate in a four-year exploration of drama and art through nine-week enrichment classes during their 5th through 8th grade years. 7th and 8th grade students have the opportunity to take part in a fully-staged musical production.

Drama goes beyond the stage

Drama teaches empathy, communication, self-control, and discipline. We use it to reinforce the rest of our school curriculum. Students build many of the sets for our Middle School musical, giving them an integrated learning experience in drama class that can touch subject matters like art, math, and architecture. Students learn about ancient Greece, philosophy, art, music, and more. Drama exemplifies integrated learning.
