    Art Teacher

    Southfield School in Shreveport, Louisiana, seeks an experienced professional to teach Lower and Middle School Art. The school was established in 1934 and is an independent co-educational, PS2 through Eighth Grade School with a current enrollment of 416 students. It is a member of NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) and accredited by ISAS (Independent Schools of the Southwest).

    Qualified candidates for this position should have a Bachelor of Art (or related field) degree and at least two year’s teaching experience.

    The primary responsibilities for this position include:

    • Maintain two art studios
    • Order supplies and maintain art supply budget
    • Switch-out art on hallway bulletin boards 1-2 times per semester
    • Help with set design and setup for lower school plays and Christmas program
    • Execute capstone baby portrait project for 8th graders
    • Create scaffolding art curriculum for grades Kindergarten-8th grade which incorporates choice-based projects, different media and techniques, art history, and an introduction to artists and prominent works of art
    • Teach hand-building ceramics and run a kiln for all grades
    • Provide comments and grades on report cards 4 times a year
    • Teach Advanced Art middle school art club
    • Incorporate available technology in the classroom
    • Attend faculty meetings
    • Perform carpool and lunch duties

    The two art studios at Southfield School are new, spacious and well equipped with a broad array of art resources including an electric kiln The music room is located in the school’s STEAM building adjacent to the theater where grade level plays are performed.
