The weekend of February 26, 2011, Southfield Middle School foreign language students competed at the Arkansas Foreign Language Teacher's Association competition.

SPANISH:

Level 1 Spanish Extemporaneous Speaking:  2^nd place Sabrina Mashburn (qualifying for State.)

Spanish Talent:  2^nd place Lane Craig (singing), 3^rd place Emily Biernacki (playing the piano)

Spanish Cooking:  Dessert category: 2^nd place Lane Craig and 3^rd place Kailey Roberson

FRENCH:

French Drama:  1^st place for the Southfield Team and a perfect score from all three judges! (qualifying for State)

Level 1 Extemporaneous Speaking:  1^st place Cami Miller;  2^nd place Bradley Potts and Lauren Carey tied;  3^rd Will Flowers and Graeme Weinland tied with someone from another school

Level 1 Extemporaneous Reading:  Bradley Potts and Cami Miller tied for 1^st place;  Logan Green took 2^nd place.

Level 1 Poetry:  Graeme Weinland 1^st place (qualifying for State)

French Talent:  Lauren Carey.  1^st  place for her dance. 

Poster:  Amy Shirley took 2^nd place.

Cooking:  Amy Shirley took Best in Show!

This year students had to make at least a 90% (18 out of 20) to qualify for the State Competition Cami Miller and Bradley Potts qualified for State in both Speaking and Reading.  Graeme Weinland qualified for Poetry.  In addition to all the students named above, Will Flowers also qualified for French Drama.
