Dear Middle School Parents,
I extend our thanks to the families
who joined us for Back to School Night, September 1. It was great to see
everyone and please do not hesitate contacting me for clarification of any
curricular, personnel or program issues.
Duke University
Talent Identification Program
- The following children scored at or above the 95th
percentile on verbal or math Stanford 10 standardized tests as specified by Duke
University. The seventh grade
students will be invited to take the SAT in January 2010. Congratulations to
each student for attaining high academic standards at a nationally recognized
level.
- The fifth grade student qualifiers were: Mackenzie Brown, Elizabeth Bryan, Caitlin
Covington, Matthew Garfunkel, Renee Lyles, George Thomas Mainous, Steele
Netterville, Alex Robertson, Harrison Rosen, Alicia Smith, Will Barlow, Ethan
Barton, Dresden Dilts, Kaylee Hooper, Austin Linacre,
Cameron Robinson, Jack Rossi, Sadie Sutton, and Lillie Thompson.
- The seventh grade student qualifiers were: Bradley Potts, Will Flowers, Logan Green, Lane Craig, Sabrina Mashburn,
Gabrielle Gary, Malcolm Huff, Mallory Johnson, Grace Long, Ashley Spain, Graeme
Weinland, and Jake Wyss.
Caddo Parish Gateway
Gifted and Talented Program
- As high school looms ever closer for our eighth
grade students, the following seniors have successfully qualified to be tested
for the Caddo Parish Gateway Gifted and Talented program: Kyle Berney, Tristan Hebert, Madeline Walker, Everett Robertson, Tanner
Linacre, Aidan Long, Eliot Organick, Spencer
Blum, Nathanael Beck, Squires Smith, Yale Rosen, Kyle McClanahan, David
Newtown, Emily Nelson, Abby Hogan, Cole Evensky, Ryan Downey, and Hunter
Brandhurst. Each of these students scored the required
number of points in language and/or math on the qualifying matrix provided by
Caddo Parish. Well done!
Participatory Groups
and Activities
- Strings
Ensemble: Dr. Samara Humbert, Centenary College, will conduct the Ensemble group which includes Kent Felty, Ainsley Terrill, Samantha Stroud,
Malcolm Huff, Nathanael Beck, Kyle Davis, and David Newtown, as its members.
- Eagle
Singers: Elizabeth Bryan, Maddie Collier, Lane Craig, Misty creamer, Dresden
Dilts, Breanna Guggenheim, CeCe LaBorde, Grace Long, Renee Lyles, Grace
Poimboeuf, Jasmine Nunley, Cameron Robinson, Macy Scott, Sadie Sutton, Sara
Sutton, Ainsley Terrill, Lillie Thompson, and Hardy Trafford. Mrs. Debbie Davis, music teacher, will be their sponsor
and conductor. She is still seeking students who would like to participate in
Eagle Singers.
- Jets
Football: Several middle school boys are playing on the sixth, seventh and
eighth grade combined private schools Jets football teams. Taking the field for
their first year as Jets is sixth grader
Bishop George, Jacob Chen, and Clayton Bantle.
Seventh grade Jets are Garrett
Hooper, Stephen Cox, and Jake Wyss. Eighth
grade ‘gridiron guys’ are Kyle Berney,
Ryan Downey, Nicholas Fultz, Hunter Hoogland, Everett Robertson, Raymond Purvis
and Tristan Hebert. Game schedules for all three teams can be
found online at www.southfield-school.com. The seventh and eighth grade teams started their
seasons with wins on the road and will be playing at home in Messmer Stadium
Tuesday at 5:30 and 7:00 p.m. during the next five weeks.

Hansen, CeCe LaBorde, Maddi Paul, Ainsley Terrill, Macy Scott, Caroline Bowman,
Lane Craig, Haley Trammell, Ashley Spain, Mallory Johnson, Samantha Sutton,
Mary Alice Booker, Emily Nelson, Madeline Walker, and Alyssa Ruben.
- Student
Council: Henley Fletcher, Macy Scott, Bradley Potts, Ross Mainous, Hunter
Brandhurst, Hunter Hoogland will continue their roles through the end of
the first quarter.
