Our team placed 6th in the MathCounts State Competition.
This is the first year we have ever placed. Also important to note is that we are the only school from North Louisiana to place with several other magnet and private schools that competed from our region. There were 23 schools from across the state with 99 students competing.
Individually, Yale Rosen placed 19th, the highest on our team, followed by David Newtown in 26th.

The Cubs Scouts held their annual Pinewood Derby on Thursday, Feb. 4th.

Bears- Dalton Ostrander (3rd grade) - also the returning champion
They went to the regional Pinewood Derby at Sci- Port on Saturday, Feb 6, and Dalton Ostrander ( 3rd grade ) was 16th fastest overall! Congratulations
Southfield will begin its 6th year hosting the Prime Time Reading Program this February 23rd. As part of our partnership with Volunteers of America, we will host children from The Lighthouse program with their mentors for this 6-week program (Feb 23rd; March 2nd, 9th, 23rd, 30th; April 6th.)
The Lighthouse children will arrive every Tuesday evening with their mentors. They will be fed a meal that has been sponsored by a Southfield Middle School student.

Southfield School’s middle school, grades 5-8, did a community service project for the VOA Lighthouse after school program. They collected non-perishable, healthy snacks and prepared “Thanksgiving Bags” for each of the 160 children in the Shreveport and Bossier Lighthouse after school program. The 200 bags prepared were then given to the Lighthouse children to take home for the Thanksgiving break. Pictured here is Southfield 8th grader, Nicholas Fultz, who is preparing one of the bags.
Five of our Southfield 7th graders have had artwork selected to hang on exhibit in the Louisiana's Governor's Mansion.
