Application Process

Thank you for considering Southfield School for your child. Southfield provides a challenging educational opportunity for students of average to exceptional ability. Sound character, a willingness to accept personal responsibility for one's own actions, and a motivation to achieve academic success in a demanding program are essential. Southfield School seeks and accepts students for admission without regard to sex, race, color, religion or ethnic origin.

Complete the "Request for Information" form online to receive an informational packet or contact the Admission Director, Clare Coburn, to schedule a visit at 318.868.5375 or by email at ccoburn@southfield-school.org.

Submit Application

Complete the application form enclosed in the informational packet and submit with any previous school records, including report cards and standardized test scores, and a non-refundable $50 application fee. Mail to:

Additional Requirements

  • Preschool (Discovery, Readiness and Kindergarten students)
    • Applicants should be 3, 4, or 5-years old, respectively by September 1st
    • Applicants will be invited to visit Southfield and meet the Preschool Director
    • A developmental screening will be scheduled for new students entering Readiness and Kindergarten classes
    • A teacher's letter of recommendation may be requested
  • Lower School (Grades 1 through 4)
    • First grade applicants should be 6-years old by September 1st
    • The applicant will be scheduled to visit the school and an admission test will be administered during that visit
    • A recommendation form completed by the applicant's current teacher will be requested
  • Middle School (Grades 5 through 8)
    • The Associate Headmaster and/or Admission Director will interview the student and his or her parents
    • The applicant will be scheduled to visit the school and an admission test will be administered during that visit
    • A recommendation form completed by the applicant's current teacher will be requested
    • A writing sample from the applicant

School Visit

All second through eighth grade applicants are invited to spend a day in the classroom, participating with and getting to know other students. An admissions test is administered during this visit. Lunch in our cafeteria is included.

Admission

A student is accepted for admission when an enrollment contract has been issued by the School.

Enrollment

A child is enrolled when the signed contract is returned to the school with the tuition deposit.
