Associate Headmaster of Lower and Middle School Mon - Fri Preschool Director Mon, Wed, Fri Middle School Physical Education Program Fifth Grade Fifth grade students demonstrate competence in basic skills such as jumping rope, moving to a beat and catching and throwing. With the mastering of these skills, students can play in game like situations. Students continue to assume responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. Students continue to learn the etiquette of participation and can resolve conflicts during games and sports in acceptable ways. Students work to learn desired skills with a variety of group games. These game build the foundation for numerous organized sports activities such as volleyball, basketball, flag football, kickball etc. Sixth Grade through Eighth Grade In grades six, seven and eight, students understand in greater detail the function of the body, learn to measure their own performance more accurately and develop plans for improvement. Identifying the types of activities that provide them with enjoyment and challenge and that will encourage them to be physically active throughout life is reinforced during instruction in these grades. |
