Associate Headmaster of Lower and Middle School Mon - Fri Preschool Director Mon, Wed, Fri Middle School Mathematics Program Sixth Grade Math 6 is a course designed to strengthen the basic skills of the students, while at the same time broaden their understanding of the core skills necessary for higher level mathematics. The curriculum is based on both the standards set forth by the State of Louisiana Department of Education and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. The resources used are Addison-Wesley’s Mathematics, videos from United Streaming, various manipulatives, and other sources as needed. Activities are also taken from Mathematics-Teaching in the Middle School. Pre-Algebra In Pre-Algebra, provides students with the basic skills necessary for traditional Algebra I courses, as well as Honors Algebra I courses. Specifically, basic skills are reviewed and applied to algebra concepts, such as solving equations. Students should finish this class with a firm understanding of decimals, percents, fractions, equations, integers, geometry, inequalities, graphs, and probability. The materials used in the course are Glencoe’s Pre-Algebra - An Integrated Transition to Algebra and Geometry, the accompanying workbook, videos published by United Streaming, various manipulatives and miscellaneous worksheets for reinforcement as needed. Algebra I The Algebra I curriculum provides students with the basic algebra skills necessary for more advanced mathematics courses. Students develop. Specifically, students are introduced to the “language” of algebra and are taught to solve first and second degree equations, factor polynomials, graph equations, solve systems of equations and inequalities, and apply all of these skills to solving real-life applications. |
