Associate Headmaster of Lower and Middle School Mon - Fri Preschool Director Mon, Wed, Fri Lower School Technology Program At the kindergarten and lower school levels, students are exposed to programs that reinforce reading, math, graphics, and emerging writing skills. Students learn to use special software that allows them to create stories and illustrations. They also use a program that reinforces math concepts taught in the classroom. Beginning in first and second grade, students begin creating multimedia presentations using software that combines text with graphics. By second grade, they learn to use the Internet for research, using kid-friendly search engines. They also begin learning how to enter data into a simple spreadsheet program and create graphs using this data. In third and fourth grade they are given formal keyboarding instruction. They also progress to more sophisticated programs for word processing, multi-media presentations, and spreadsheets. Students are given opportunities to do research using the Internet and are taught effective and safe search techniques. Students use a fully-equipped, networked PC technology labs outfitted with a scanner, laser, and color printers. All lower school classrooms have two PCs and a printer for student use. |
