November 7 - 11

Theme: Thanksgiving Harvest and Nutrition

Literacy and Language:  We will read Thanksgiving is for Giving Thanks, Five Silly Turkeys10 Fat TurkeysI know an old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie, Perky Turkey, and To Grandmother’s House We Go.  We have discovered that the children love (and are capable of) using follow-along recorded stories.  They started doing this independently last week and it has become a favorite center.

Art Activities:  Turkeys, turkeys and more turkeys.  This week we will use this bird in many ways.  We will make a name turkey, a handprint placemat, one from a potato and one from a pinecone.  We will also do a special art activity for book fair, but it’s a surprise so you will just have to come out and see it at book fair.

Discovery and Sensory:  We will shuck some corn and sort some (pretend) food into food groups.

Math:  We will glue turkey feathers to the number six.

Cooking:  We will be making yummy candy corn bark this week.  It consists of white chocolate chips, dried cranberries, candy corn, and pecans.

Parents Corner:   It was lovely visiting with y’all at conferences.  I hope to see you all again next weekend at the Pie Run!

The Pie Run – November 12, 2011. Half mile fun run at 8:00.  5K/10K starts at 8:30.  Register at www.sportspectrumusa.com .    Baby strollers, wagons and baby joggers are welcome at a walking pace.

Your children are a joy.  Thanks for sharing them with us.
