Discovery Class Newsletter

November 28 – December 2

Theme: Gingerbread

Literacy and Language:  We will read The Gingerbread Man, The Gingerbread Girl, The Gingerbread Boy, Gingerbread Friends, The Cajun Gingerbread Boy, and The Legend of the Candy Cane.

Art Activities:  We will make gingerbread man place mats and decorate both foam cut out gingerbread men and cookies.  We will also string beads to make a candy cane and paint lollipops.  We will also explore negative space painting with gingerbread men at the easel.

Discovery and Sensory:  Our sensory tub will feature flour and salt for texture and cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger for scent.  We will explore magnets at the science table

Math:  We will stamp the gingerbread boy on the number 7.  We will also play gingerbread matching

Cooking:  On Thursday we will bake and decorate a gingerbread boy.  We think he may run       away and we will need to go on a gingerbread boy hunt for our snack!

Parents Corner:   Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Southfield is making an effort to be “greener”.   In the effort to go paperless I encourage you to look at the e-newsletter sent out each week to keep abreast of school happenings.

Your child will need white tights and a white turtle neck for the Holiday Program.  Please be sure the turtle neck is long enough to cover your child’s bottom.

The preschool will continue Southfield’s tradition of community Service by collecting afterschool snacks for the Lighthouse program sponsored by Volunteers of America.  We are collecting individually packaged snacks to contribute to this effort.  Good examples of snacks are granola bars, nutra-grain bars, raisins, dried fruit, cheese crackers, etc.  We will collect these snacks for the next two weeks.  Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Your children are a joy.  Thanks for sharing them with us.

Fondly,

Susie and Patti
