January 9 - 13

Theme: Winter

Literacy and Language:  Today we read Snowballs.  Also on the list this week are The Wild Toboggan Ride, The Hat, The Mitten, Josie and the Snow, and The First Snowball.

Art Activities:  We will do some “finger skating” in white paint on foil, make a ribbon hat collage, lace a mitten, drive cars in the snow (shaving cream), and paint with frozen water color.

Discovery and Sensory:  We will still be exploring things that freeze and melt.  I was thrilled in circle time this morning when so many of the children were calling water “liquid” and ice “solid”!!!  We talked a little bit about gases.  I’m thinking that we will have to boil and ice cube to see the vapor.

Math:  We will stamp snowflakes on the number 8.  We will also sort small, medium, and large snowballs to make a snowman.

Cooking:  We will make snowflakes for snack on Thursday by cutting a flour tortilla to look like a snowflake and applying spray butter and sugar and baking til puffy.
