SECOND GRADE NEWS

February 6-10, 2012

 

 

LANGUAGE ARTS - We will begin reading The Legend of Robin Hood adapted by Annie Ingle.   We will read it for homework and then read it aloud and discuss it in class the next day.  Since we are not reading from the SUPERKIDS series, our Spelling list is made up of medieval words: castle, king, queen, sword, dragon, moat, joust, shield, armor, lance, and drawbridge.

100th DAY of SCHOOL

The much anticipated 100th Day of School was celebrated today in a fun-filled, activity packed way.  We can hardly believe that we have passed the halfway mark of this 2nd grade year.  Only 78 days to go!

LANGUAGE ARTS - Just as our 2nd graders will perform a play, the SUPERKIDS perform a play and learn to deal with stage fright. The phonics focus is on /-tion/ pronounced /shen/. Spelling words are vacation, station, tough, rough, laugh, elephant, telephone, alphabet, photograph, sure, picture, adventure, nature, and television.

MATH - Moving right along with Unit 8’s study of fractions.

LANGUAGE ART - We’ll read the Book Club selection, Good Night, Good Knight by Shelley Moore Thomas. It is a fairy tale about a knight who finds himself in charge of tucking three lonely dragons into bed. Spelling words are: knight, night, dragon, gallop, enemy, largest, loudest, guess, castle, and forest.
