Dear Parents, This week we will continue to work on our American Indian unit but most of our emphasis will be on Valentines Day. Hopefully we won't be too confused by the end of the week. Please read about our Valentine Day plans at the end of this letter. Topics of discussion:What is a tomtom drum? Why did the Indians have cradle boards? What is a papoose? Who do we love? How do we exchange valentines? Math: We will work pattern block puzzles. We will also play "Beat the Clock". Art: We will make a Valentine bag to put all of our cards, candy and other things inside to bring home, a papoose, and a tomtom drum. Reading: We will finish Unit 6. We are still working on concepts of first, next and last. We will sequence pictures to tell a story. Language and Literacy: We will make a book about "LOVE". We are reading lots of books but please send some if you have one to share about Valentines day . We also have a weekly reader we will send home. Be sure to take a few minutes to read these with your children. We read them together at school but it really helps with comprehension if they see these more than once. These are some of our biggest vocabulary building years. Please read read read to them every day. Cooking: We are making strawberry cream cheese sandwiches. Parent Information: We will exchange valentines on Tuesday, February 14th. We are also having a special snack. You can send valentines to school on Tuesday morning in a zip lock bag and we will help them find the right bag to put them in. We have 16 children at this time. |
